by comparison with its Lisbon rivals. [Applause] Well, it’s a friendly in theory, but we are expecting this to be fiercely contested. I’m sitting here, Peter, thinking, is it possible for these two to meet under friendly circumstances? This exhibition match is likely to exhibit the same old rivalry. To me, it also has the same feel to it. And I’m pretty sure we can look forward to what will be a combative, highintensity affair. We can’t really say anything negative about this. And if it is full on, then I’ll be happy to watch that. And already we’re underway here. So, who do you reckon is pivotal? Yeah, Tibbo Couta. He’s a huge presence between the sticks and that’s not just because he’s 6’6, Peter. He’s got great reflexes, wonderful positioning, and uh he’s a strong defensive leader. I think opposition defenses will also need to watch out for his long throws. They’re quick, they’re accurate, and the source of many a good counterattack. thinking the same. He will be a central feature, no doubt. Cuts it out. Rubika [Applause] Mbappé. No messing about. Just bludgeoned away. [Music] [Applause] Martinez. Venicious shoots. He’s got away with one there. Well, I think the opposition was pretty sloppy in creating a problem for themselves then, but he was on to it so quickly and very nearly made them pay. But it’s Lucas Vasquez just brushed off the ball there. [Applause] He wasn’t very far from making something happen by himself. Lovely to see. well positioned to make that interception. [Applause] Rüiger Rudiga hits that long. The defense can get it clear. [Applause] Oh, shooting chance straight at the keeper. That’s just literally playing into his hands. Eric Garcia [Applause] What an adventurous run from a [Applause] defender. Referee’s given a throw. [Applause] [Applause] And that’s another throw played in deep. Cross deflected behind for a corner. They’ve played it [Applause] short. That’s not going to find its [Applause] target. Plays it out to the wing. Ubappé. Venicious [Applause] Junior. He’s making good use of his strength there. It’s ruffled a few feathers, but well dealt with. Well, no question as to who’s winning the battle in midfield at the moment. Some very impressive pressing in place here. The defense got the better of him this time, but I’m sure he’ll go again. Eric Garcia gets into a dangerous position and it’s been intercepted and that will come to nothing. Well played. He saw that coming. Rubika forward. It goes out to the right. Lucas Vasquez gets good distance on it. A nice touch. Plenty waiting in the middle. Valde tries to play it back. Played out to the right. Lucas Vasquez. Shot at goal. Goes for goal. Big moment. Massive. could move up a gear here. Baldi Lucas Vasquez. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Venicious [Applause] Junior. That’s one way of trying to make things happen. There’s a few who could follow that example. Valverde quickly realized that he was headed down a dead end. Maybe he was waiting to be fouled. [Music] [Applause] Umbrella. It’s as friendly as it can be in the circumstances, but you feel the rivalry. Well, in games of this nature, as a player, Peter, you only want to work as hard as demanded. You don’t want to have to go at it full pelt. But when the opposition is what it is, all of that kind of goes out the window. The challenge here will ask more of you, and so both teams will will wish to to give more than they take. It’s one of those games, Peter, where if the opposition increase their effort, you have to follow it. But if he did just miss it, we are up and running already. Who do you think this turns on, Jim? That’s surely a foul. Free kick. It’s not taking him long. And that’s going to be a booking. [Applause] Mbappé. E Mbappé goes up and over. Well, I don’t think it was the wisest option, Peter, once he got into that position. It’s not as if he didn’t have people nearby. Tries to get it forward quickly. Just brushed off the ball there. Rudika, hoist it [Applause] forward out to the right. Oh, that is lovely footwork. [Applause] That’s not going to make it. And it’s played forward. Forward it goes. Well, that wasn’t too dissimilar to the previous attempt. This is proving to be a very good spell. The intensity is great, but they’ve got to make it [Applause] count. Mbappé with a good steal. Well played. He’s looked long this time. Good idea, just poorly executed. He acknowledges that he should have come up with something better there. Yeah, the idea was right. The delivery wasn’t. They can revisit that further on. They’ve been denied a chance to develop any rhythm in the passing department. Tries to get it forward quickly. Venicious Junior has a goal. Oh, great save. Players really mean business. The entertainment value rockets and we could be in for a treat after such a stunning opener. And he’s produced a beauty. Big occasion, big goal, crucial lead. Yeah, although that first goal is a welcome boost, they can’t afford to ease off now. To do that would simply be inviting danger. [Applause] The ball needed to be better there. It’s a wasted chance. [Applause] Eric Garcia. And no, that is pretty much the end of that. Lucas [Applause] Vasquez hoist it forwards into a dangerous position. [Applause] Great leap done well to get his head on that but couldn’t score. Oh, this was all about good movement in the box just to allow him to get to it. battles to win it back. Oh no, that’s not the ball he wanted. Umbbappé. Oh, sweet [Applause] beat. Has a goal. This could fall [Applause] anywhere. It’s got through. Good defending there. They’ve slammed the door in the faces of the opposition. Venicious Junior. Well, the ball’s come loose and the chase is on. [Applause] finds himself eased off the ball. [Applause] [Applause] And he’s there to hoop it away. Real Madrid have it back and they can go again. [Applause] looking to get within range. The referee’s awarded a free kick. He’s not taking him long and that’s going to be a booking. The players are making their point, but the ref clearly isn’t interested. He’s waved the ball away. Well, I think the alternative was to stand there and do nothing while he he tried to score. And obviously, he’s not going to allow that to, is [Applause] he? He’s having a go. Towering header. Decent attempt but not quite green enough. Real Madrid clearly aren’t looking comfortable on the ball at the moment. Predictability has just crept into their play. Martinez, the message is clear. Valde takes the long option and he heaves it forward. Valde Venicious Junior. He’s gone for it. And he comes up front again. with [Applause] Garcia Mbappé. Venicious Jun and the finish. Oh, shame. Harmlessly behind [Applause] Sznney sends that a long way. Eric Garcia Valde out to the right. Here it come. Massive leap. Oh, just needed a better contact. Well, plenty of moving targets to pick out in the box. Obviously increases your chances of the ball being met like that by someone. [Applause] [Applause] it out of harm’s way. [Applause] Great lead. Just couldn’t turn it in. Well, being able to generate that amount of activity in the box means it’s hard not to pick someone out. He’s made sure that that won’t get through. Can he find a finish now? They didn’t manage to get nearly enough into the box and that speaks of little ambition. Can he deliver? Chooses to go back. It’s found its way to him. Forward it [Applause] [Applause] goes. Venicious Junior. He’s offering an apology for that. He needed to deliver a better ball. Rubika. Venicious. Venicious Junior. Oh, great save. Real class. And he’s there to make a great save. Well, you can’t ask for much more than that. A difficult moment he simply had to deal [Applause] with and it’s been taken short. Lucas [Applause] Vasquez, Venicius Junior. Venicious Junior really was well marshaled there because he was denied the opportunity to let up. But when the opposition is what it is, all of that kind of goes out the window. The challenge here was that intervention was very necessary. tries to get it forward [Applause] quickly. Martinez. Lucas Vasquez positions himself well and cuts it out. Mbappé really got caught in a trap there and he just couldn’t get [Applause] out. Lucas Vasquez hoist it forward. Rudiger and it’s played forward out towards the flank and that’s a throw. going for goal. That’s a half decent try. Well, the look on his face says it all. [Applause] [Applause] Venicious Junior has brushed off the ball there. Forward it goes. He’s making good use of his strength there. Just refuses to be out muscled. Uh, a cause of mild frustration. Venicious Junior. And they’ve been caught out here. And last ditch defending, but that’ll do. Another chance. Cleared. Absolutely brilliant. I wasn’t expecting that. Well, you know, thinking about that, I think they’ve perfected that on the training ground because it took them seconds to get the ball from back to front and they really commit forward in numbers, too. That was all very well drilled. Big occasion, big goal, crucial lead. Yeah, although that first goal is a welcome boost, they can’t afford to ease off now. To do that would simply be inviting danger. Lings across well read. He’s sorted that out. Gets good distance on it. Good run ultimately thwarted by an astute piece of defending. Crowd appreciates good football all around there. That’s believing too much in his own ability to hold on to the ball. Forward it goes. Venicious [Applause] Junior. Lucas Vasquez. He’s got options in the box if he gets his head up. Who’s ball? Who’s going to get there? Be a throw in. Martinez, Eric Dosia, Valv, and it’s Lucas Vasquez. Out to the left it goes. Pumps it into the area. Knocks it [Applause] away. Venicious Junior.
